Arizona legalized sports betting and daily fantasy sports with the passages of Senate Bill 1797 and House Bill 2772, which were sent to Governor Doug Ducey’s desk for his signature on April 13, 2021. Gov. Ducey signed the historic bill on April 15.
The bill allowes for 20 total sportsbooks in the state. Commercial entities like professional sports teams can have up to ten licenses to operate mobile betting and in-person retail sportsbooks. Currently eight of these licenses have been granted. Tribal entities received the additional ten licenses to operate mobile betting and all ten licenses have been distributed. In addition to these mobile betting licenses, tribes can now accept in-person wagers on their lands under the Arizona Gaming Compact, which is separate from the mobile betting bill enacted in April 2021.
Daily Fantasy Sports and sports betting are now both live in Arizona.

The recently passed legislation brings regulated, legal sports betting to Arizona. Mobile sports betting apps allow wagering from anywhere within the borders of the Grand Canyon State.
Arizona bettors can download mobile sports apps to both Apple iOS and Android devices. The biggest brands in sports betting offer full-service sports betting on their mobile apps, including DraftKings, FanDuel, BetMGM, and many others.
Once you’ve signed up at an online sportsbook and downloaded the mobile app, you can bet on sports from anywhere in Arizona as long as you’re in possession of your smartphone.
Most legal online sportsbooks also offering wagering directly through desktop browser, with no download required. The current sports betting boom in the US is driven by mobile wagering, which makes betting on sports more convenient than ever.
The speed of a mobile sports betting app can make or break the product. With up to 20 apps on the way to Arizona, the competition will be fierce for sports betting market share. Live/in-play betting, which features odds that change every few seconds, relies heavily on mobile app speed.
You can’t wager at an online sportsbook if you can’t get money into your player account. The top-rated online sportsbooks in the US present several different ways to make deposits, including PayPal, Play+, ACH/eCheck, and credit/debit cards.
Aspiring sports bettors naturally flock to online sportsbooks that offer generous welcome bonuses and recurring promotions. Some of the most popular promotions for bettors include deposit match offers, risk-free bets, and pre-launch bonuses. ArizonaCasinos.com will update our site regularly with the latest information on mobile sportsbook bonuses.
From casual bettors to astute sports wagering sharps, all players benefit from the ability to track open bets and peruse past betting results. The best sportsbooks offer these features with a user-friendly interface, so you’ll always know what your action looks like, present or past.
Top-notch online platforms like DraftKings Sportsbook present numerous different ways to fund your sports betting account. Some of the best ways to make deposits at an online sportsbook include the following:
PayPal– PayPal presents the most reliable way to get money into your mobile sports betting account. PayPal deposits go through almost 100% of the time, and you can also make withdrawals using PayPal.
Play+ Prepaid Card – Many online sportsbooks offer house-branded versions of the Play+ Prepaid card. This prepaid debit card links directly to your sportsbook account and can be loaded with funds using several different methods. Once loaded, you can move money to and from your sportsbook balance instantly using the Play+ Prepaid card.
ACH/eCheck – ACH/eCheck deposits draft an electronic check from your bank account and send it through an Automated Clearing House for approval. ACH/eCheck deposits appear in your player balance instantly if approved, but some banks don’t allow gambling-related transactions, even to a legal online sportsbook.
Skrill – Skrill functions as an eWallet, allowing you to deposit into your Skrill account using several different methods. Once you’ve loaded your eWallet, you can then deposit funds at any online sportsbook that accepts Skrill. This method sometimes involves transaction charges, however.
The Apple iOS version of an online sports betting app almost always allows all of the same deposit methods included in the desktop version of the sportsbook. Apple Pay and iTunes gift cards can’t be used for deposits, however, even if you’re using the Apple iOS version of a mobile sports betting app.
Much like their Apple iOS counterparts, the Android version of a mobile sports wagering app generally includes all of the same deposit options as the desktop version of the client. Android users won’t be able to use Google Play gift cards to fund a sportsbook account, however.
Retail sportsbooks are either open or will be open in the near future at the following locations.
Now that sports betting apps have launched in Arizona, players can place several different types of wagers. Moneyline wagers are one common bet and only require players to bet on the outcome of a game: which team will win or lose?
But all sportsbooks also offer other wager types, including:
In-play bets are also likely to be big in Arizona’s sports betting industry. In-play bets are provided by most major sportsbooks these days and they allow you to make wagers using dedicated betting markets that leverage odds that are updated on the fly by automated algorithms.
In-play betting allows experienced sports wagerers to take part in the action in a new way, especially since many major sportsbooks include live streaming. On these sports betting apps, players will be able to watch the action unfold on their mobile device and place a wager right as big plays are being made.
Just be mindful of which sportsbook you download, however; not all apps currently provide live or in-play betting.
Futures bets are going to be popular in Arizona, and for good reason. These bets provide some of the highest potential payouts of all wagers since players can put their money down early and benefit from the odds being stacked against them further than usual.
Futures bets involve betting on the outcome of a future event like a tournament or championship. World Series bets are a popular example. Players will be able to place futures bets on tournament outcomes, game outcomes, and even the overall performance of certain players, such as which player will win the “MVP” award for the 2022 baseball season.
Prop or proposition bets are popular wagers to make across the country. Unlike most other bets, which revolve around betting that a team will win or lose or betting about a certain score threshold, prop bets involve wagering on a specific or isolated event in a game.
For example, popular prop bets include betting on whether a player will shoot a three-pointer in basketball, whether a player will score a touchdown in football, or whether a player will make a home run in baseball.
Prop bets are fun and flexible, especially for newcomers who may not know how to read or gauge betting lines and odds for full game outcomes or points totals.
There’s one minor quibble with Arizona’s sports wagering legislation, however. Prop bets on collegiate games will not be allowed. Fortunately, you’ll be able to place prop bets in Arizona on all other sporting events.
Arizona’s sports betting industry uses the same line-making algorithms and statisticians as other states. This will result in player-friendly odds with a good potential for profit no matter which side of a bet you decide to take.
For example, a typical moneyline wager (where you bet on the outcome of a single game) might have odds set at +110 for the favorite team to win the match and -110 for the underdog. In short, these odds indicate that you would need to wager $110 when betting on the favorite team to win $100 or wager $100 on the underdog team to potentially win $110.
In this way, the underdog odds for any Arizona sports match will be riskier but offer a potentially higher payout. All licensed sportsbooks in Arizona uses official league data when formulating their betting lines.
Experienced sports bettors may also wish to shop around between different sportsbooks, checking out each book’s betting lines for the same event to determine which one offers the best potential payout.
The 2023 Super Bowl will be held at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, AZ, home of the Arizona Cardinals. All the sports betting apps and sportsbook locations will be open by then, including one inside State Farm Stadium. That will be an enormous day for Arizona sports bettors.
On that note, here are the professional sports teams in Arizona, most of which host retail sportsbooks on-site:
An MLS stadium is being built in Tempe for Phoenix Rising FC, which is trying to join the MLS. That stadium will likely also house a retail sportsbook if that happens.
The Phoenix International Raceway in Avondale hosts biannual NASCAR races, and the TPC Scottsdale hosts the Waste Management Phoenix Open, a stop on the PGA Tour.
The following college teams are highly popular options, particularly for NCAA football and basketball betting:
All but Grand Canyon have both football and basketball programs.
One of the best parts of online sports betting is all the bonus offers. Here are some of the Arizona sportsbook bonuses:
The Arizona Department of Gaming (ADG) reviewed each sports betting applicant and approved licenses only to those that exhibit the highest levels of safety and security. The ADG also only promotes responsible gaming.
The state regulator has established a standard for all sportsbooks to follow. This includes housing all player funds in a separate bank account that the company cannot use for expenses.
The ADG will also audit and regulate the sports betting apps on an ongoing basis to ensure everything remains above board.
All online sportsbooks partnered with an existing name in Arizona sports or betting. Local bettors will be familiar with these organizations, providing peace of mind that doesn’t exist with illegal sites.
For example, the FanDuel Sportsbook isn’t just a standalone app. It is available through a partnership with the Phoenix Suns of the NBA. The reputations of both companies is on the line with the FanDuel Arizona launch, further instilling confidence in the safety and security of the platform.
Arizona sports bettors waited a long time for the launch of legal sportsbooks. However, that comes with the advantage of knowing exactly what to expect from these operators.
Reviews around the internet will help you identify which one is the best for your style of betting and budget. And these apps have had the time to mature into intuitive, player-friendly platforms.
So while online sports betting has been a long time coming, you now have all the resources you need to make the most informed decisions.
Illegal sports betting sites can’t offer an iOS app because the App Store doesn’t list illegal betting sites. Illegal sites can offer an Android app for download directly from the site, but that’s a risky endeavor. Illegal sites are a likely culprit for offering a Trojan horse app that can infect your device.
Google Play just recently started allowing legal online sports betting apps. Up until the beginning of 2021, Android users had to download the apps directly from the websites, even for legal platforms.
You can usually deposit and withdraw using PayPal and online bank transfers at sports betting sites. These options are unlikely to come with fees, and they’re an option for both funding your account and cashing out.
Arizona sports betting apps will eventually have retail sportsbook locations as well. That normally means you can fund your online account and withdraw winnings in cash at the betting window of the retail location or partnering casino.
Pro tip: Arizona bettors should avoid using credit cards for deposits at an online sportsbook. The transaction is often considered a cash advance, which most likely has a $10 minimum fee.
21. This is the minimum age for all legal gambling activities in Arizona and applies to both online and retail sports betting.
When signing up for an online sportsbook account, you’ll need to provide proof of your identity and age.
The Arizona Department of Gaming. The ADG oversees, regulates, and audits all legal gambling activities including online sports betting and retail sportsbooks.
Arizona’s sports betting rules and regulations allows bets on all major league sports, individual professional sports like golf and MMA, and international sports like European soccer. College betting is also allowed, just no college prop bets.
Yes, net winnings for the year are subject to Arizona income tax as well as federal income tax. The Arizona state income tax rate ranges from 2.59% to 4.50%. The federal tax on gambling winnings is 24%. For example, net winnings of $1,000 would be taxed between $25.90 and $45 by Arizona and an additional $240 from the federal government.
Yes. DraftKings has a partnership with the PGA. Through the partnership, the DraftKings Sportsbook app and the DraftKings DFS app is available in Arizona. DraftKings will also open a retail sportsbook in TPC Scottsdale in 2023.
Yes. The FanDuel Sportsbook app and DFS app is available in Arizona thanks to a partnership with the Phoenix Suns. A FanDuel retail sportsbook inside the Footprint Center is officially open.
Governor Ned Lamont made history by becoming the first person to place a legal sports wager in Connecticut shortly after cutting the ribbon at Mohegan Sun Casino to launch the state’s betting market.
Cathy Soper, director of communications for the casino resort’s owners the Mohegan Tribe, shared the historic moment on September 30 via Twitter.
The first legal wager in the state was also Lamont’s maiden wager. He laid down $50 on the WNBA’s Connecticut Sun to beat the Chicago Sky, which they did.
FanDuel Sportsbook, the Mohegan Sun’s sports betting partner and operator of the casino’s temporary sportsbook, took to Twitter to showcase Gov. Lamont and his history-making ticket.
The two men pictured on either side of Lamont (above) are former NFL players, the New England Patriots’ Darius Butler and New York Jets’ Wayne Chrebet. The two ex-pros had the honor of placing Connecticut’s second and third legal bets at the resort’s temporary retail sportsbook.
With Thursday being the first day of the state’s protracted rollout of legal sports betting and iGaming, Lamont was a busy man. Shortly after his ribbon-cutting ceremony at Mohegan Sun, Lamont made the short journey to Foxwoods Resort Casino, which was also celebrating the grand opening of its temporary DraftKings sports betting venue at its Rainmaker Casino.
The Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation-owned Foxwoods Resort Casino also got onto Twitter to share a video of the opening ceremony.
At Foxwoods, Lamont wagered $20 each on the NFL’s Tampa Bay Buccaneers to beat the Patriots, and Major League Baseball’s New York Yankees to beat the Toronto Blue Jays.
The retail sports wagering installations at both Mohegan Sun and Foxwoods are temporary, with permanent sportsbooks currently under construction. Thursday’s retail launch at the two tribal casinos was a precursor to the larger launch of sports betting in Connecticut slated for early October.
Online sports betting was due to soft launch October 7. According to the Wilton Bulletin, however, Department of Consumer Protection spokesperson Kaitlyn Krasselt said that due to last-minute delays on approvals, the online gaming rollout is likely to be pushed back “a couple days”.
For Connecticut bettors on Thursday, however, the launch of retail sports betting was something to celebrate.
According to a report by the Associated Press, Zach Young of New Haven, Connecticut, said he has been “waiting for this day.”
President and GM of Mohegan Sun, Jeff Hamilton, said in a news release that it was “a thrill” to offer guests sports betting. He added it was a “milestone that was a long time in the making.”
fun to kind of sit back, watch the games, bet, be physically there, watch it all happen”
Connecticut resident Chelsea Savignac said she was looking forward to hanging out at the permanent Foxwoods sportsbook when it opens. “I think it would be really fun to kind of sit back, watch the games, bet, be physically there, watch it all happen.”
She added: “There be more energy, more interaction with the sport instead of just doing it from the couch on your phone.”
